Privacy Policy

We believe privacy is a right, not a feature. This policy explains clearly and honestly how .mpx handles your data — or more accurately, why it almost never needs to.

Overview

Short version: .mpx is a fully offline, local music player. It does not create accounts, does not connect to the internet, does not transmit your data, and does not track you in any way. Your music stays on your device.

This Privacy Policy applies to the .mpx application for Android, developed and published by brokoz ("we", "us", or "our"), available at brokoz.com/mpx. It describes what information .mpx accesses, why it needs it, and how it is used.

By installing and using .mpx, you agree to the terms described in this policy.

Data We Collect

.mpx does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to us or any third party.

All data generated by your use of the app — including playback history, playlists, and preferences — is stored exclusively on your device and never leaves it.

  • No account required. You do not need to create a profile or sign in to use .mpx.
  • No analytics. We do not use any analytics, telemetry, or usage-tracking SDKs.
  • No advertising. .mpx contains no advertisements and no advertising identifiers are accessed.
  • No crash reporting services. No data is sent to remote servers in the event of an error.
  • No internet connection required. The app functions entirely offline.
  • No audio recording. Although Android requires the RECORD_AUDIO permission to drive the real-time visualizer, .mpx does not record, store, or transmit any audio at any time.

App Permissions

.mpx requests the minimum permissions necessary to function as a music player. Below is a full list of the permissions used and why each is needed.

Permission Purpose
READ_MEDIA_AUDIO Read audio files from your device storage so the app can display and play your music library. Required on Android 13+. No files are copied, uploaded, or shared.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Access audio files on devices running Android 12 or earlier. Same scope as above — local playback only.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE Keeps music playing in the background while you use other apps and displays the persistent playback notification.
RECORD_AUDIO Required by Android's Visualizer API to read real-time waveform and frequency data from the active audio session. This permission is used solely to power the in-app visualizer — no audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Allows the app to restore any active playback session after your device restarts.

No permission is used for any purpose beyond what is described above. We do not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any other device sensor.

How We Use Data

Because .mpx does not collect personal data, this section is intentionally short.

Preferences you configure within the app (such as equalizer settings, sort order, or theme choices) are saved locally on your device using Android's standard storage APIs. This data is used solely to restore your settings when you reopen the app.

This data is never read by brokoz, never transmitted off your device, and is permanently deleted when you uninstall the app.

Third Parties

.mpx does not integrate any third-party SDKs, services, or APIs that would result in your data being shared with or accessible by any party other than yourself.

There are no advertising networks, analytics providers, social login services, or cloud storage integrations included in the application.

The only external parties relevant to your use of .mpx are:

  • Google Play Store — the platform through which you download and update .mpx. Google's own privacy policy governs their handling of data related to app installation and updates.
  • Your device manufacturer / Android OS — standard Android platform behaviour applies, independent of .mpx.

Children's Privacy

.mpx does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since no data is collected at all, the app is safe for use by people of any age from a data privacy standpoint.

If you have any concerns regarding a child's use of .mpx, please contact us using the details below.

Your Rights

Because .mpx does not collect or store your personal data on any of our systems, there is no personal data held by brokoz for you to access, correct, export, or delete.

All data stored by the app lives on your device and is entirely under your control. You can clear the app's local data at any time via your device's Settings → Apps → .mpx → Storage → Clear Data, or by uninstalling the app.

Residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, California, and other regions with data protection regulations retain all rights afforded by applicable law. As we do not process personal data, the majority of these rights are satisfied by design.

Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — for example, if a future version of .mpx introduces a feature that involves data collection — we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice within the app or on the brokoz.com website.

We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of .mpx after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
